Championships are rarely won in September. They are earned in the final weeks of October, when every game carries consequences and every mistake becomes more difficult to overcome.

Teams no longer have the luxury of looking ahead. Every Friday night now feels like postseason football, with intensity rising across the section as contenders fight to keep championship dreams alive.

Cathedral Catholic continues setting the pace, but the margin separating the Dons from the rest of the field has become increasingly narrow. Throughout the season, Cathedral Catholic has relied on disciplined execution, veteran leadership, and one of the section's most balanced rosters to navigate a demanding schedule. Those qualities remain evident entering the final stretch, but every opponent now approaches the Dons knowing an upset could reshape the entire playoff picture. The Grizzlies have remained remarkably steady throughout league play, relying on complementary football and timely execution to keep building momentum. They may not always dominate the spotlight, but they consistently find ways to win, and that resilience becomes invaluable as the postseason approaches.

Elsewhere, several programs continue battling for playoff position with little room for error. Carlsbad remains firmly in contention for another successful finish, while St. Augustine continues validating its impressive season with meaningful league victories. Steele Canyon keeps leaning on its physical style of play to stay in the postseason picture, while Eastlake continues building confidence at the right time. La Costa Canyon also remains in the hunt, understanding that a strong finish could dramatically improve its playoff path.

Week 9 often serves as the final proving ground before the postseason begins.
