After weeks of league battles, rivalry games, and relentless competition, the CIF San Diego Section playoffs have arrived. Records, rankings, and preseason expectations no longer matter. Every team still standing begins the postseason with the same objective: survive another week and continue chasing a championship. From this point forward, every possession carries season-defining importance, and every mistake has the potential to end months of hard work.

Cathedral Catholic enters the playoffs exactly where most expected the Dons to be—among the favorites to capture another Open Division title. Throughout the regular season, Cathedral Catholic consistently demonstrates the balance that defines championship football. An explosive offense, disciplined defense, and experienced leadership have allowed the Dons to navigate one of California's toughest schedules while remaining one of the state's premier programs. Now comes the challenge every contender faces: maintaining that level of execution when there are no second chances.

Lincoln also begins the postseason believing its championship window is wide open. The Hornets have spent the regular season establishing themselves as one of Southern California's most explosive teams, using speed, athleticism, and big-play ability to overwhelm opponents. Yet their greatest improvement has come on the defensive side of the football, where consistency and physicality have transformed Lincoln into one of the section's most complete teams. That balance gives the Hornets every reason to believe they can make a deep playoff run.

Granite Hills enters the postseason with the confidence that comes from playing disciplined, physical football all season long. The Eagles have relied on dominant line play, strong defensive execution, and an offense that consistently protects the football. Those fundamentals become even more valuable in playoff football, where field position, turnovers, and execution often decide close games. Granite Hills has spent the entire season preparing for this moment.

Mission Hills also arrives in the postseason as one of the section's most dangerous teams. The Grizzlies have built momentum through consistency rather than headlines, winning with complementary football and limiting costly mistakes. Their ability to remain composed during pressure situations has become one of their defining strengths, making Mission Hills a legitimate threat to any opponent in the bracket.

Beyond the top contenders, several programs have positioned themselves to challenge the established favorites. Carlsbad enters the playoffs with confidence after another strong regular season, while St. Augustine continues one of the year's most impressive campaigns by carrying meaningful momentum into November. Steele Canyon remains a physical, disciplined opponent capable of disrupting any game plan, and Eastlake has steadily improved throughout league play to earn its postseason opportunity. La Costa Canyon also begins the playoffs believing it has the experience and talent necessary to extend its season.

The postseason always produces unexpected moments. Close games become even tighter, underdogs embrace the opportunity to rewrite expectations, and experienced leaders emerge when pressure reaches its highest point. Every coaching decision becomes magnified, every adjustment carries greater significance, and every player understands there may not be another opportunity if execution falls short.

As the first round begins, Cathedral Catholic continues setting the standard, but Lincoln, Granite Hills, Mission Hills, and several other contenders are all chasing the same prize.
