Its Friday Night. Championship is on the line. Pittsburg vs. Lincoln - who will be the last one standing? Earlier this week Pittsburg had a big win against Folsom which resulted in boost of confidence from players and coaches. When the time came to deliver Lincoln accepted the challenge without hesitation. Lincoln’s QB Akili Smith Jr. would strike first as he links up with Tyree Shine for a 6 yd TD pass and afield goal. The first quarter ended with Lincoln in the lead (7-0).
The second quarter began with Pittsburgh gaining momentum as running back Jamar Searcy breaks a long run to the 17 yard line. The interception from Lincolns Abdulahi quickly ended the drive. Pittsburg defense responded with a huge sack from Elijah Bow. After the turnover Pittsburg would excute a 47 Yard TD by running back Searcy. This resulted in their first 6 points and a field goal tying the game 7-7. Lincoln responded with a 13 yard pass Smith Jr. To Ty Olsen which would be coined the "greatest catch of the game" . Due to his toe tap while falling out the back corner of the endzone, while having full control of the ball throughout the whole play. Pittsburg's Searcy responded with a long pass from his QB Marley Alcantara. Searcy would then collect his second rushing touchdown which tied the game at 14-14 going into halftime.
Throughout the 3rd quarter Lincoln continued their attack with a 73 yard pass from Smith Jr. to Isaiah Grant. After making the extra point, the score is now 21-14 Lincoln. Pittsburg QB Marley Alcantara completed multiple impressive passes, with Searcy caping off the drive with a 1 yard touchdown run. This resulted in Searcy's 3rd touchdown of the night. However, a crucial PAT was missed
making the score 21-20, Lincoln.
The 4th quarter began with multiple turnovers. As both teams defense would make great defensive stops. Lincoln would be the first to strike with 7 yard touchdown run for QB Smith Jr. Making the score 28-20 after the field goal was made. Pittsburg crowd grew silent as the clock counts down with 3:34. They know whats at stake. However, Searcy had other plans by taking the initiative to change the outcome. With Pittsburg down by 8 Searcy breaks a long run setting the tone of the drive. Driving down the field to the 4 yard line of Lincoln. Lincoln’s defense stands strong forcing a 4th and 1. Pittsburg Searcy takes the hand off and powers in for the touchdown. This was his fourth touchdown of the
night. The Pittsburgs crowd screams roared throughout arena which was fueled by hope that it was not the end.
The score is now 28-26 Lincoln up and Pittsburg down by 2. Pittsburg is forced to take a 2pt attempt. Pittsburgh hikes the ball and passes to Searcy on a swing route as he looks to pass. With no one open he tucks, runs and dives for the endzone. Lincoln’s defense is smothering, stopping Searcy before he penetrates the goaline. With a last ditch effort Pittsburg tries an on side kick but failed to recover. Lincoln is in the lead as the clock hits zero. Lincoln's screams of joy from players and their crowd over took the arena. Lincoln are the 2024 CIF Division 1-AA Champions. I would like to congradulate both sides for giving it their all and for showing great sportsmanship and respect for one another. To the referees who did an amazing job on their calls and helping keep the game in between the lines. Also a big shoutout to the coaching staff of both teams for an amazing season. It was a honor to be able to watch both teams compete at a high level.
