Both teams were coming off a 10 plus win season. The week previous the pacers narrowly defeated St. Francis 32-30 to advance to the state title game. Those in attendance definitely got their money's worth.
The Energy was competive from the coin toss to the last play of the game. The Tritons receive the ball first. The Qb1 Dominic Duran efficiently Marched the Tritons down the field. Pacifica scores first on a seven yard rushing touchdown from Alijah Royster. Grant with the pressure on for the first drive they're stopped and forced to punt. Pacers defense steps up to
the plate to force the tritons to punt. They scored on Luke Alexander's 7 yard pass to Brandon Lambert. They ended the first quarter tied 7-7.
Grant strikes first in the second quarter. Alexander throws a 26 yard pass to Zo Edwards. The stadium erupted as Edward's made a difficult catch over two defenders. It becomes very clear that this is a highly competitive matchup. Safety Gary Tia intercepts Durans pass and returns it for what would become the third touchdown for the Pacers. With a score of 21-7 Grant began to build a sizable lead.
After multiple stops from both defenses Grant creates another productive drive. They work their way down the field for a six yard rushing touchdown giving Lambert his second score of the game. The Pacers go into halftime up on the Scoreboard 28-7.
The Tritons head coach Mike Moon must've given a motivational halftime speech. The tritons came out swinging initially causing a turnover on downs. Duran goes to the hot hand with a 6 yard passing touchdown to Royster. The Tritons get the stops needed to forget a comeback. Duran connects with Royster for a 36 yard touchdown pass bringing the Tritons within 1 score of completely wiping out the massive lead. At the end of the third quarter the score was 28-21.
The Tritons down the unthinkable. After a missed field goal by Grant, Duran Connects with Royster for his fourth
touchdown of the game and possibly the most critical. The game is now tied 28-28. The Tritons did the impossible by completely wiping out Grant's lead. The tension rises as they take the field. Grant puts together a big drive. Alexander Completes a 26 yard touchdown pass to Koby Shabazz. Time runs out for Pacifica and Grant becomes the Division 2-AA State Champions.
In Conclusion both teams play extremely well. It was a super competitive environment. A time was had. Congrats to the Grant Pacers. Journalist - Tony
